Description
Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 is legislation, initiated by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India[1] to provide more effective provisions for the maintenance and welfare of parents and senior citizens. It makes it a legal obligation for children and heirs to provide maintenance to senior citizens and parents, by monthly allowance. It also provides a simple, speedy, and inexpensive mechanism for the protection of the life and property of older persons. After being passed by the Parliament of India, it received President‘s assent on December 29, 2007.[2]
